Millers increase purchases as arrivals decline, while procurement support keeps pulse values largely supported nationwide
Prices of tur rose across key spot markets on Monday due to strong demand and lower arrivals, while chana prices showed mixed trends and urad remained steady amid lack of fresh market cues.
In Akola, Maharashtra, chana prices increased by ₹25 to ₹5,775-₹5,800 per 100 kg. Traders said the rise was driven by slight improvement in need-based demand along with lower arrivals in the market.
However, overall consumption remained weak due to seasonally lower demand for chana dal during summer months.
Market participants said chana prices have largely stayed within a narrow range over the past month, fluctuating based on short-term buying requirements.
Government procurement operations continued to support prices in Maharashtra. The Centre recently extended the procurement period for tur and chana in Maharashtra till May 31 for the 2025-26 kharif season. It also raised the chana procurement target in the state by 58,632 tonnes to 8,19,882 tonnes following a request from the state government. Meanwhile, chana prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, remained unchanged at ₹5,700-₹5,750 per 100 kg. Tur prices in Akola rose ₹50 to ₹8,075-₹8,100 per 100 kg due to stronger buying interest from millers and reduced arrivals of the new crop.
In Katni, Madhya Pradesh, tur prices also increased by ₹50 from the previous week to ₹8,200-₹8,300 per 100 kg.Prices of urad in Chandausi, Uttar Pradesh, and Jaipur, Rajasthan, remained steady amid adequate supply and weak summer demand. Industry participants expect urad prices to stay range-bound in the near term as arrivals from the summer crop are likely to increase further in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
