Tur prices rose in key spot markets across the country on Friday due to increased demand from millers and expectations of tightening domestic supplies, while chana and masur traded largely steady amid subdued demand and ongoing government procurement support.
In Akola, tur prices increased by ₹100 to ₹7,400-₹8,100 per 100 kg, supported by higher buying from millers anticipating stronger demand for tur dal in June. Traders said depleting kharif crop stocks and concerns over lower near-term availability further strengthened market sentiment.
Market participants also tracked the Centre’s recent decision to raise the minimum support price (MSP) of tur for the upcoming kharif season to ₹8,450 per 100 kg from ₹8,000 earlier, which added support to prices. Traders expect tur prices to rise further in the coming weeks as supply pressures persist. Meanwhile, chana prices remained unchanged in major markets due to muted demand despite lower arrivals. In Indore, chana traded steady at ₹5,800-₹5,825 per 100 kg, while Delhi prices were quoted at ₹5,650-₹5,680 per 100 kg. Traders said arrivals of the rabi crop have slowed as farmers continue selling most of their stocks to government agencies under MSP procurement operations. The government is procuring chana at ₹5,875 per 100 kg, slightly above prevailing market prices, encouraging farmers to avoid open market sales.
Masur prices also held steady, supported by aggressive government procurement. In Indore, masur traded at ₹6,050-₹6,100 per 100 kg, while the moti variety in Lalitpur, UP, ruled at ₹5,800-₹6,200 per 100 kg. —Informist
