Hyderabad Traffic Police, in coordination with local police stations, have detected two separate cases of vehicle owners allegedly using tampered number plates to evade traffic challans and mislead enforcement authorities.
In the first case, Tappachabutra Police registered a criminal case against Syed Omer Ahmed, 24, a resident of Natraj Nagar, Jhirra. During inspection, police found that he had altered the registration number of his Honda Activa from TS12EP8323 to TS12EB8323. The tampering allegedly enabled him to commit traffic violations while causing challans to be wrongly generated against Shaik Anwar Mansoori of Shah Gunj, the genuine owner of vehicle number TS12EB8323. In another case, Sultan Bazar Police booked Khanchandani Balram, 59, of Himayathnagar. Police found that he had changed the registration number of his Honda Activa from AP09CH9428 to AP09CM9428. As a result, traffic challans were wrongly issued to S. Vijai of Kavadiguda, the legitimate owner of vehicle number AP09CM9428.
Cases were registered under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Section 80(a) of the Motor Vehicles Act. Notices under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were issued to both accused. The Hyderabad Traffic Police said advanced surveillance systems, including CCTV cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology, helped detect the violations. Police warned that using fake or tampered number plates is a serious offence and will invite strict legal action.
