Ministry of Railways has sanctioned the proposal for upgradation of electric traction system between Guntur – Pagidipalli & Motumari – Vishnupuram sections. The estimated cost for this upgradation project is around Rs 188.31 Crore. At present, the electric traction is available with the capacity of 1X 25KV, while the proposal for upgradation of this system to 2X 25KV electric traction system has now been sanctioned by the Rail Ministry. The upgradation of electric traction system mainly involves modification of circuit breakers, switching stations and installing additional conductors in the existing system.
This project falls in the States of Telangana & Andhra Pradesh. The entire stretch is around 337 Route Kms and is single line section. The section between Pagidipalli – Guntur is crucial stretch connecting Hyderabad with capital city region of Andhra Pradesh and eastern parts of the country. The section between Motumari – Vishnupuram is vital for freight transportation especially Coal. The upgraded traction system will provide supply of electricity with higher voltage which in turn helps in operating trains with higher speeds and greater efficiency.
With improved voltage regulation, voltage drops will be reduced facilitating stable voltage for trains. Spacing of traction substations can be increased and thus number of substations required will be less. This system helps in the seamless operation of both passenger and freight trains more efficiently.
