Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday carried out an aerial survey of the areas affected by “Cyclone Montha” after which he reviewed the damage caused by the cyclone and the prevailing situation with the officials from Real Time Governance System(RTGS). He enquired about the progress of rescue operations and called for immediate restoration of the power supply and roads.The CM instructed the officials to strengthen the drainages and intensify the sanitation works.
On this occasion, the CM said that the distribution of rice and essential commodities to the families in the rehabilitation centres should be expedited. Officials briefed the Chief Minister that the rainfall in the state has reduced as the cyclone has crossed the coast.1,209 rehabilitation centres have been set up in the state sheltering 1.16 lakh people. A total of 18 lakh people in 249 mandals, 1,434 villages and 48 municipalities in the state have been affected by the cyclone, officials informed the Chief Minister.
The officials also briefed the CM about the latest details of the damage caused by the cyclone. They informed him that crop damage occurred in 87,000 hectares in 1,825 villages in 304 mandals of the state. More than 59,000 hectares of paddy crops, cotton, maize and pulses have been damaged, the told him. 42 cattle have died across the state. Similarly, 2,294 km of damage occurred to roads incurring a loss of Rs 1,424 crore and a Loss of up to Rs 36 crore in rural water supply and Rs 16.45 crore in irrigation works. 3,175 pregnant women evacuated to safer places 2,130 medical camps were organized.
