Uttam sets June 2028 deadline for SLBC completion

Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday reaffirmed the Telangana government's commitment to complete the Alimineti Madhava Reddy Srisailam Left Bank Canal (AMR SLBC) Tunnel Project by June 2028 while ensuring the highest safety standards for workers.

At a high-level review meeting, the Minister described the project as a lifeline for the drought-prone and fluoride-affected regions of south Telangana. He directed officials to remove bottlenecks, expedite land acquisition, obtain pending clearances and improve inter-departmental coordination to meet the deadline. The project will draw 40 TMC of water from the Srisailam Reservoir.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said tunnel excavation has resumed with advanced technology, with nearly half a kilometre of progress already achieved. Work from the Devarkonda side is progressing steadily, and additional equipment, including three-arm boomers, is expected later this month to accelerate construction.

He stressed strict adherence to safety measures, including proper lighting, ventilation, deployment of senior geologists and technical experts, and continuous quality monitoring. He also directed officials to complete the Dindi Project, balancing reservoirs and canal network alongside the tunnel for integrated water delivery.
