BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government, accusing Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of deliberately refusing to restart the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme pumps solely to discredit the BRS, even at the cost of farmers' interests.
Addressing the Hamali unions conference at Mallapur, KTR alleged that the state government was allowing standing crops to dry despite the availability of irrigation infrastructure. He said the BRS had repeatedly urged the government to restart two pumps at Kaleshwaram, claiming that doing so would significantly improve irrigation across Telangana.
Instead, he alleged, the Congress government had chosen political vendetta over farmers' welfare by keeping the project idle and attempting to portray Kaleshwaram as a failed project.
KTR accused the Chief Minister of burdening farmers while ignoring their hardships. He also alleged that land values had declined after the Congress came to power, contrasting it with the appreciation witnessed during the BRS regime. Referring to legal cases against BRS leaders, KTR asserted that the party would not be intimidated, while warning the government against targeting ordinary people through politically motivated cases.
BRS demands SIR extension, plans Delhi visit
Later in the day, KTR reviewed the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls with the BRS committee at Telangana Bhavan and demanded that the Election Commission extend the July 24 deadline.
Expressing concern over the pace of the exercise, he alleged that Booth Level Officers had failed to adequately educate voters about the process and claimed that only about seven percent of SIR forms had been submitted so far, making completion within the stipulated timeframe unlikely.
KTR also urged the Election Commission to strictly implement the principle of "one person, one vote" across the country by eliminating duplicate voter registrations in multiple states while ensuring that every eligible voter is included in the electoral rolls and ineligible names are removed.
He announced that a BRS delegation would soon visit New Delhi to meet the Central Election Commission and press for an extension of the SIR deadline along with electoral roll reforms. KTR also assigned district wise responsibilities to members of the party's special committee to closely monitor the SIR exercise and strengthen voter awareness across Telangana.
