Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay addressed the State Assembly on Tuesday and hit back at remarks made by the opposition. The actor-turned-politician said that despite winning the elections, some people continue to dismiss him as only a film star.

During his speech, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the previous ruling party, walked out of the assembly. Vijay thanked the people of Tamil Nadu for their support and appealed to all Assembly members to work together for the public’s welfare. He also spoke about his association with fan clubs before entering politics.

“Some people say that I came directly from a film shooting set to become Chief Minister. In their own language, I would say that is just a reel. When we were functioning as a fan club, we stood by the people,” Vijay said.
