Warangal MP Dr. Kadiyam Kavya has urged the Union Government to clarify its stance on establishing an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Telangana, during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament. Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha, Dr. Kavya pointed out that Telangana is the only state in India without an IIM, despite having adequate infrastructure and land. She questioned why the state was left out, even as 21 IIMs including 7 newer ones have been established across the country since 2015.
In response, Minister of State for Education Dr. Sukanta Majumdar confirmed that there is currently no proposal under consideration for an IIM in Hyderabad. This response disappointed many in Telangana’s academic and political circles, reigniting calls for equal representation in premier education.
Dr. Kavya emphasized Telangana’s rapid development, its large youth population, and Hyderabad’s status as an educational hub with institutions like IIT-Hyderabad and ISB. She stressed that the state deserves a top-tier management institute to match its growing educational and leadership needs. Reaffirming her commitment, Dr. Kavya stated, ‘It is a matter of rightful inclusion. The youth of Telangana cannot be left behind in access to premier management education.’
