Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy today said the Central Government was giving top priority to the development of infrastructure in 90% of the districts across the country. He also said the country was moving rapidly towards changing the face of development.
“If infrastructure is comprehensively developed, rapid and comprehensive development will be possible in the country. Employment opportunities will improve. In this direction, the Centre is giving top priority to the development of infrastructure on issues like roads, rail, air, port and tele- connectivity. The Central Government is spending lakhs of crores of rupees to improve road, rail, air, port and tele connectivity in all parts of the country.
As part of the development of infrastructure, the construction of national highways is progressing rapidly. No country can achieve development without the construction of roads. With good roads, fuel consumption costs are reduced, accidents are reduced, transportation is faster, and one can reach the destination in less time,” he said. He noted that the Road development enables local and global business development in the country and added that the Road, rail and air connectivity were crucial for attracting investment.
It was undertaking rapid development programs in connectivity sectors such as road, rail, air, waterways and telecommunications without any shortage of funds. In 2014, Telangana had 2500 km of national highways, but now they have increased to about 5200 km. In the last ten years, the Central Government has spent Rs 1,25,485 crore on the development of National Highways. The State of Telangana is developing many National Highway projects, key economic corridors and tourism promotion projects, he said.
Stating that the Hyderabad city also plays a key role in the development of the country, Reddy said connectivity had been enhanced through many National Highways such as Hyderabad to Bombay, Nagpur Road, Warangal to Bhupalpalli Road, Vijayawada to Chennai Road, and Kurnool to Bangalore Road.
He said to reduce the travel time between Hyderabad and Srisailam, the Central Government had given special attention to the construction of a four-lane elevated corridor on National Highway-765 from Mannanur to the Telangana-Andhra Pradesh border.
