NTR District Revenue Officer (DRO) M. Lakshmi Narasimham on Sunday announced that, as part of the rationalisation of polling stations, it has been proposed to establish 129 new polling booths across the district. He urged political parties to submit any objections, if any, regarding the proposed changes.
District Collector Dr. G. Lakshmisha, speaking on the occasion, said that the draft list of polling stations at the constituency level was submitted on July 20 as part of the rationalisation process, following the action plan laid out under the Special Intensive Revision 2026 (SIR 2026). This initiative is in line with the directions from the Election Commission of India.
According to the guidelines, if a polling station has more than 1,200 voters, it must be rationalised by either creating a new polling station or merging it with the nearest one. Currently, out of the total 1,792 polling stations in the district, 295 have more than 1,200 voters. To address this, 129 new polling stations have been proposed by merging the surplus voters with the nearest polling booths. With this, the total number of polling stations in NTR District has increased to 1,921.
At present, the district has a total of 17,07,589 registered voters. The DRO stated that if there are any objections to the proposed list of polling stations, they should be brought to the notice of the district administration by August 4. These objections will be duly examined and appropriate action will be taken accordingly.
