A shot that worried Karisma Kapoor

Actress recalls fearing Haseena Maan Jaayegi would flop after spotting a background shot she thought audiences might notice

Actress Karisma Kapoor recently recalled how she initially had doubts about Haseena Maan Jaayegi and feared the film might not perform well. Speaking during a dance reality show, Karisma shared that after most of the film’s scenes were shot in Goa, she approached director David Dhawan and jokingly asked him where she was in the film. According to the actress, Dhawan assured her that she had two songs coming up and asked her to wait and watch. Karisma went on to recall the filming of the popular song What Is Mobile Number, saying it was shot in just one day. She also revealed that while the film’s story was set in Goa, the song was actually filmed at a resort in Mumbai’s Madh Island.

The actress further shared a humorous anecdote from the shoot. She said that after noticing something unusual in the background of a shot, she worried it might affect the film’s chances at the box office. “I told David ji that if someone noticed that shot, our film wouldn’t be a hit. But till date, no one has ever noticed it,” she said.

Directed by David Dhawan, Haseena Maan Jaayegi starred Sanjay Dutt, Govinda, Karisma Kapoor and Pooja Batra in lead roles, with Anupam Kher, Kader Khan, Aruna Irani and Paresh Rawal in supporting roles. The film was released on June 25, 1999.
