Metro India News | bombay : The Bombay High Court has criticised political leaders for targeting actor Dia Mirza over her appeal for an eco-friendly, cracker-free Diwali and directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to re-upload her deleted awareness video. A Bench of Justices Girish Kulkarni and Neela Gokhale observed that environmental protection should not be given a communal or political colour, stressing that pollution affects everyone equally.
The video was part of the BMC’s campaign encouraging citizens to celebrate Diwali with lights rather than firecrackers. The civic body had removed it following objections from certain political leaders.
The Court expressed displeasure over the controversy and reiterated that its anti-pollution directions apply throughout the year, while emphasising the need to protect the environment and uphold constitutional values.
