Adani Group and Brazilian aerospace major Embraer are set to announce next week a plan to establish a final assembly line for commercial aircraft in India, marking a major step in the country’s push to manufacture civilian planes domestically.
According to sources, a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between Adani Defence and Aerospace and Embraer on January 27 in New Delhi, in the presence of Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu. The agreement will focus on setting up a Final Assembly Line for Embraer’s civilian aircraft in India.
Embraer manufactures commercial jets with seating capacity of up to 150 passengers. The proposed facility would allow Adani Group, which already has a strong footprint in India’s aviation infrastructure sector, to enter aircraft manufacturing for the first time.
Sources said that after the assembly line becomes operational, Adani Group may also gradually move into manufacturing aircraft components in the country. In a joint media invitation, the companies described the upcoming announcement as a historic milestone in India’s commercial aviation and Make in India journey.
India is among the fastest-growing civil aviation markets globally, driven by rising passenger traffic, airline fleet expansion and rapid airport development. Seeking to tap this growth, Embraer opened a new office in New Delhi in October 2025.
Embraer currently has close to 50 aircraft operating in India across defence, government, business and regional airline segments. The company estimates India will require at least 500 aircraft in the 80–146 seat category over the next two decades.
