Introduces penalties for lapses
In a move aimed at ensuring accuracy and accountability in the Class 10 examination process, the Andhra Pradesh government has introduced stringent measures for the evaluation of answer scripts. The School Education Department has decided to impose penalties on evaluators found guilty of negligence, particularly in the recording of marks, recounting, and reverification processes.
According to official orders issued recently, any discrepancies or errors identified during evaluation will invite strict action. Evaluators responsible for such lapses will face penalties after due inquiry, signalling the government’s intent to eliminate inaccuracies that could adversely affect students’ academic outcomes.
The decision comes in the wake of errors reported in last year’s Class 10 results, where mistakes in mark calculation and data entry led to concerns among students and parents. Determined to prevent a recurrence, the government has rolled out a more robust and technology-driven evaluation framework this year.
As part of the reform, authorities have decided to adopt the same protocols currently in place for Intermediate examinations. One of the key changes includes the direct entry of marks into digital tablets during the evaluation process. Officials believe that this step will significantly reduce manual errors and enhance the overall reliability of the system. In cases where negligence is suspected, a detailed report will be submitted to higher authorities. Subsequently, notices will be issued to the concerned staff seeking explanations. Based on their responses, disciplinary action will be finalised in accordance with departmental norms.
Meanwhile, the Class 10 board examinations are currently underway across the state. The exams, which commenced on Monday, are scheduled to continue until April 1. The evaluation of answer scripts is set to begin shortly after, from April 4, and is expected to conclude by April 10.
Officials emphasised that the new measures are designed with a student-centric approach, ensuring that no candidate is disadvantaged due to administrative or procedural errors.
