In a push towards sustainable agriculture and healthier food consumption, the Andhra Pradesh government is set to establish a network of organic marts across all municipalities in the state. Modelled on the successful Rythu Bazaar system, these government-operated outlets aim to provide certified organic produce at affordable prices while ensuring better market access and remuneration for farmers practicing natural farming.
According to officials, the initiative is part of the state’s broader strategy to promote chemical-free agriculture and reduce dependency on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. The organic marts will serve as a direct bridge between farmers and consumers, eliminating intermediaries and stabilizing prices for both ends. Farmers engaged in natural farming methods will be encouraged to supply their produce directly to these outlets, ensuring transparency and traceability.
Each organic mart is expected to stock a wide range of products, including organically grown vegetables, fruits, pulses, grains, and value-added items. The government plans to integrate these marts with existing natural farming clusters, An official from the agriculture department stated, “The objective is twofold, ensuring fair prices for farmers practicing natural farming and making safe, residue-free food available to the public at reasonable rates. Much like Rythu Bazaar's transformed direct marketing, these organic marts will create a dedicated ecosystem for sustainable agriculture.”
