Making strides towards reviving the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), the newly constituted Board has taken bold steps aimed at both strengthening the corporation’s finances and ensuring better passenger services. The Board in their recent meeting has recommended to the State Government the filling of over 9,000 vacant posts. It also decided to review several controversial decisions made during the previous government’s tenure.
In the meeting, a major focus of the discussion was on the rental bus agreements made during the previous YSRCP government. The Board observed that the lease period for nearly 200 private buses was irregularly extended, allegedly benefitting bus owners and causing financial losses to the corporation. The Board resolved to conduct a comprehensive review of these contracts and submit a detailed report to the State Government for further action.
Chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao said, “Our mission is to rebuild APSRTC into a financially strong and service-oriented organization. We are committed to restoring transparency and accountability in all its operations.”
With the government’s vision of transitioning from diesel to electric buses, the Board discussed the feasibility and requirements for the shift, including the establishment of charging stations and new technical recruitments.
It also passed a resolution urging the government to fill more than 9,000 vacant positions and expedite the long-pending compassionate appointments. Employees’ unions submitted petitions to the Chairman, seeking the restoration of pre-merger unlimited medical benefits and the resolution of other staff grievances.
The Board also reviewed proposals for infrastructure expansion, along with the proposed construction of a new bus depot at Chintalapudi in Eluru district.
With these initiatives, the APSRTC Board appears poised to steer the corporation into a new era of reform, transparency, and modernization, signaling a strong intent to rebuild one of Andhra Pradesh’s most vital public service institutions.
