Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday sought to defuse a controversy triggered by remarks made by Telangana TDP leader Bakkani Narasimhulu. Addressing TDP general secretaries, zonal in-charges, and senior leaders, reviewing the recently concluded Mahanaadu, Chandrababu said certain comments made by Bakkani Narasimhulu were inappropriate and stressed the need for caution while speaking about regions with deep historical and cultural significance.

“Telugu people are one irrespective of where they live. No one should make remarks that hurt the sentiments of others. The TDP was born on Telangana soil and continues to have a strong cadre in the state. Since the party’s formation, it has played a significant role in promoting social justice and development in Telangana,” Chandrababu said. He also expressed happiness over the enthusiastic participation in Mahanaadu from Telangana. The remarks, made by TDP Telangana Ad-hoc Committee Chairman Bakkani Narsimhulu, have reignited political debate over Telangana’s identity and the party’s intentions in the state.

Addressing the gathering, Narsimhulu reportedly stated that the word ‘Telangana’ does not exist in the dictionary and alleged that regional sentiments were deliberately fueled by certain individuals for political gain.

His comments triggered outrage across Telangana, with critics accusing the TDP leadership of disrespecting the state’s identity and history. The controversy intensified after TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh announced at the same event that he would personally take responsibility for strengthening the party not only in Andhra Pradesh but also in Telangana.
