The Government Minority Lecturers Association-Telangana has urged the state government to extend the summer vacation for junior colleges by another week due to the intense heatwave conditions prevailing across Telangana.
In a representation submitted to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the Chief Minister’s Office, the association requested postponement of the reopening of Intermediate junior colleges scheduled for June 1. It noted that temperatures in several districts have crossed 45 degrees Celsius, creating difficult conditions for students, teachers and staff.
The association cited weather department warnings advising people to avoid venturing outdoors during peak afternoon hours because of the severe heat. It also pointed out that Osmania University has already extended holidays for Degree and PG students until June 6.
Association leaders said Intermediate students are younger and more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. They expressed concern over students travelling long distances to colleges and hostels, especially those studying in private and corporate institutions. State President Syed Zabee, General Secretary Abdullah and Working President Minhaj Haque appealed to the government to issue immediate orders extending the holidays in the interest of student welfare and safety.
