Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday said Amaravati would be developed into a global healthcare and medical tourism hub, attracting patients from across the world.
Speaking after inaugurating the 600-bed Lalitha Super Speciality Hospital in Guntur, the Chief Minister said Andhra Pradesh was preparing to emerge as a major centre for advanced healthcare services, similar to Hyderabad’s rise as a preferred treatment destination.
“Just as people from across India travel to Hyderabad for treatment, patients from different countries will come to Amaravati in the future,” he said.
Naidu praised the Lalitha Group for establishing the hospital with 32 specialised departments and advanced medical equipment, including a high-end MRI scanning system. He described the facility as a major addition to the region’s healthcare infrastructure.
Stressing that health is the greatest asset, the Chief Minister urged people to adopt healthier lifestyles through proper diet, exercise, yoga and pranayama. “Healthy citizens build a wealthy nation,” he said.
Naidu also highlighted the government’s flagship Sanjeevani Healthcare Programme, aimed at transforming healthcare delivery through digital health records and preventive, predictive and curative care. Under the programme, up to 42 diagnostic tests would be conducted at people’s doorsteps using technology-enabled healthcare systems.
The Chief Minister said the government was implementing a Universal Health Policy under which eligible families would receive free treatment up to Rs 2.5 lakh, reducing the financial burden of healthcare.
He also expressed concern over unhealthy food habits and excessive use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides, stressing the importance of preventive healthcare and public participation in maintaining good health.
Naidu said the government was investing heavily in healthcare infrastructure, digital technologies and medical education to position Amaravati as a future centre for advanced healthcare and medical research in India.
