The Telangana BJP has accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi of hypocrisy over their past stance on the India–Pakistan cricket match in the Asia Cup.
State BJP chief spokesperson N V Subash questioned whether Gandhi and Owaisi, who previously called for boycotting matches against Pakistan, were now disappointed by India’s dominant seven-wicket victory. He pointed out the irony in leaders who once demanded proof of India’s airstrikes and echoed Pakistan’s claims now remaining silent.
“These are the same leaders who doubted our armed forces and even backed misleading international narratives,” Subash said, referencing past incidents from Pulwama to the surgical strikes.
He hailed Team India’s win as more than just a sporting success. “Skipper Suryakumar Yadav dedicated the victory to victims of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. It’s a fitting tribute to our soldiers’ bravery,” he stated. Subash also praised the Indian team’s refusal to shake hands with Pakistani players, calling it a strong symbolic stand.
Justifying BCCI’s decision to play, Subash clarified it was made under ICC rules, where boycotts could risk suspension. “It was a matter of protocol, not profit,” he said.
The BJP alleged that the Opposition, by consistently questioning India’s actions and aligning with anti-national narratives, is losing public trust. “How long will they continue this charade?” Subash asked, asserting that the people of India can see through their intentions.
