CARE Hospitals launches month long diabetes awareness initiative

Ahead of World Diabetes Day (November 14), CARE Hospitals has launched a month-long diabetes awareness initiative across Hyderabad to promote early detection, preventive care, and management of diabetes-related complications, especially diabetic foot, one of the most disabling outcomes of the disease.

Diabetes affects both physical and mental health. Nearly 70% of those with diabetes are of working age, emphasizing its growing impact on productivity and emotional well-being. The WHO’s 2025 theme, ‘Diabetes across life stages,’ focuses on lifelong care, a vision echoed in CARE Hospitals’ campaign.

The initiative features free diabetes screening camps in residential areas, IT parks, and malls, along with ‘Know Your Sugar’ workplace programs and ‘Healthy Tiffin’ school sessions to promote healthy habits among children.

Globally, one in nine adults, about 589 million people live with diabetes. Every 30 seconds, a leg is lost to diabetes, and up to 34% of patients may develop foot ulcers without timely care.

Dr. P C Gupta, Clinical Director and HOD, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, CARE Hospitals, noted, ‘Diabetic foot starts silently but can lead to infection and amputation. Most cases are preventable through early screening and proper management.’

Biju Nair, Zonal COO, added, ‘Our goal is to empower individuals through education and prevention because diabetes awareness is a lifelong commitment.’
