Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu said on Thursday that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will visit the districts of north Andhra Pradesh this month and give directions to the officials to complete the pending irrigation projects. He held a review meeting with the officials and representatives of the agencies concerned on the progress of the works of the North Andhra irrigation projects at the Secretariat.
He alleged that during the five years of YSRCP rule, the government had not allotted any money and stopped the works of Uttara Andhra Sujala Sravanti which was taken up during the TDP government in 2014-19 period. Minister Ramanaidu said that after the present government came to power, CM Chandrababu Naidu had given special importance to the projects in North Andhra and had instructed them to spend more than Rs 2,000 crore in the next two years and complete important projects.
He said that an action plan is being prepared to complete nine important projects-BRR Vamsadhara, Thotapalli, Vamsadhara-Nagavali Link, Janjhavathi Reservoir, Hiramandalam Lift, Nagavali-Champavathi, Mahendra Tanaya, Tarakarama Tirdha Sagar and Madduvalasa Reservoir. The minister instructed the officials that these 9 projects be identified as priority projects and special attention should be given to R&R and other works.
With the completion of these projects, 1.24 lakh acres of new ayacut will be brought under cultivation in Uttara Andhra Pradesh and another 2.48 lakh acres will be stabilized, thereby benefitting the drought areas and bringing more ayacut under cultivation at a lower cost, he said.
