The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on the Congress government in Telangana, accusing it of failing to deliver on its promise of 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs). Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao slammed Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the Congress leadership for misleading the public with unfulfilled promises and resorting to baseless criticism of the Central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mask their administrative failures.
Addressing a press meet on Thursday, Kishan Reddy accused the Congress of deceiving Telangana’s people with false promises, including six guarantees and 420 sub-guarantees, none of which have been implemented since assuming power. He criticized the state’s financial mismanagement, alleging that the Congress has driven Telangana’s economy into a crisis by accumulating debts to service existing loans.
Kishan Reddy highlighted the party’s failure to honor commitments like the BC Declaration, Youth Declaration, and Minority Declaration, particularly the promise of Rs 1 lakh crore for BC welfare, questioning the allocation of even Rs 40,000 crore in the past two years. He accused the Congress of attempting to distract from its failures by targeting the BJP and Modi with baseless allegations.
Speaking at a well-attended BJP workers’ meeting in Bhongir, N. Ramchander Rao took a dig at Revanth Reddy’s claim that BC reservations would be implemented only after Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister. The crowd responded with a resounding “No-No,” dismissing the possibility. Rao criticized the Congress’s Delhi dharna as a pretext for pushing Muslim reservations under the guise of BC quotas, calling it a betrayal of the BC community. He noted the absence of senior Congress leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Vadra at the dharna, labeling it a “flop” event meant to praise the Gandhi family and criticize Modi.
The BJP leaders reaffirmed their commitment to implementing 42% BC reservations if voted to power in Telangana. The saffron party chief emphasized the BJP’s track record, citing Modi’s leadership as a BC Prime Minister, the constitutional status granted to the BC Commission, and the inclusion of 27 BC ministers in the Union Cabinet.
