The Congress Working Committee (CWC) convened its historic extended meeting in Patna, Bihar, on Wednesday, marking the first such gathering in the state since Independence. Held at the iconic Sadaqat Ashram, the meeting signals a good omen for the Congress, reminiscent of its successful CWC meeting in poll-bound Telangana, which led to the party’s victory in the state’s assembly elections in November 2023. The Congress high command is optimistic about replicating this success in Bihar, another poll-bound state, as it strategizes for the upcoming assembly elections.

Prominent Congress leaders present were AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal, and chief ministers from Congress-ruled states. Key attendees from Telangana included Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, TPCC Chief Mahesh Kumar Goud, Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Damodar Rajanarsimha, and former MLA Vamshichand Reddy.

The CWC adopted resolutions condemning the BJP-led NDA government as “illegitimate,” built on “vote chori” and “rigged voter lists.” Kharge emphasized that the Bihar elections will mark the beginning of the end of the Modi government’s “corrupt rule,” highlighting domestic and international challenges due to Modi’s failures. He criticized the government’s foreign policy, particularly its tilt towards China and strained relations with the US, noting Donald Trump’s hostile tariff and H1-B visa policies. Kharge also slammed the doubling of Chinese imports despite Modi’s “self-reliance” rhetoric and the excessive GST collection of Rs 23 lakh crore over eight years.
