Metro India News | Hyderabad

Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has warned that non-performing contractors and agencies delaying irrigation works will face strict action, as the State Government moves to fast-track major irrigation projects in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district. He ordered rigorous monthly monitoring of project implementation and made it clear that timelines fixed for completion of works were non-negotiable.

Chairing a high-level review meeting with senior Irrigation Department officials, Uttam Kumar Reddy assessed the progress of key projects and reviewed decisions taken during Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's two day inspection tour of Palamuru irrigation projects on June 4 and 5. He directed officials to prepare and implement a comprehensive project wise action plan to ensure speedy execution of all major works.

The Minister instructed officials to resolve bottlenecks relating to land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement, power supply and contractor performance in mission mode. Chief Engineers were asked to submit detailed completion schedules, while District Collectors were directed to expedite land acquisition through consensus wherever possible and ensure timely rehabilitation of affected families.

Reviewing the Mahatma Gandhi Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme, Uttam Kumar Reddy directed officials to complete repairs and rehabilitation of pumping stations and make all motors operational by March 2027. Canal network works under the project are targeted for completion by June 2027.

For the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, he ordered early completion of rehabilitation measures for displaced families and directed officials to finish key trunk infrastructure up to Karivena Reservoir by December 2026. Immediate power connectivity to major pump houses was also prioritised.

The Minister also reviewed progress of the Makthal Narayanpet Kodangal, Rajiv Bhima, Koilsagar, Jawahar Nettampadu and Thummilla Lift Irrigation Schemes, directing officials to accelerate land acquisition, rehabilitation and pending construction works. He stressed the need to explore solar power generation at reservoirs and pump houses to reduce long term energy costs.

Uttam Kumar Reddy reiterated that the Congress Government aims to complete most major irrigation projects in the Palamuru region by 2027, unlock the area's full irrigation potential and fulfil the aspirations of lakhs of farmers.
