Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu while delivering a lecture at the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library in New Delhi, celebrating the enduring legacy of former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao said that the country continues to reap the rewards of reforms launched by him over three decades ago. He further added, he dismantled the License Raj and initiated liberalisation. “His leadership was comparable to Deng Xiaoping’s reforms in China. With just $1.2 billion in reserves, he saw the crisis as an opportunity and laid the foundation for India’s future.”
Naidu described him as a true son of Telugu soil and an intellectual statesman who transformed the destiny of India. The lecture, titled “The Life and Legacy of P.V. Narasimha Rao,” drew a packed audience of scholars, policymakers, and youth leaders, as Naidu traced Rao’s journey from a humble village in Telangana to the highest echelons of Indian politics, crediting him for launching the country’s most consequential economic reforms.
“P.V. Narasimha Rao was a shining symbol of balanced leadership. A visionary who spoke 17 languages, he stood for intellectual clarity and national unity, qualities especially relevant today amid ongoing language debates,” Naidu remarked. “He was not only a Prime Minister of India, but also a matter of immense pride for every Telugu-speaking citizen.”
Calling Rao “the architect of modern India,” Naidu said the country continues to reap the rewards of the reforms he launched over three decades ago. The Chief Minister drew a direct line from Rao’s economic reforms to the infrastructure and telecom revolution under Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and finally to the bold governance agenda of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Vajpayee ji built India’s roadways and digital backbone. Prime Minister Modi took that momentum forward and turned India into the world’s 4th largest economy, soon to be 3rd,” Naidu said. He praised Modi for restoring national pride and transforming India's global image. “By 2047, India will be the No. 1 country in the world, and Indians will lead in every field globally.”
Reflecting on India’s IT boom post-liberalization, Naidu said Rao’s reforms gave India a first-mover advantage. “Countries across the globe are aging, but India has youth on its side. I am 100% confident that this demographic dividend, if harnessed, will make India unstoppable.”
He lauded the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library for preserving India’s democratic heritage and called for similar memorials for other reformers and visionaries. The event concluded with the felicitation of PV Narasimha Rao’s family members, including his son P.V. Prabhakar Rao and grandson N.V. Subhash, followed by a vibrant Q&A session and awards for young achievers.
