Cybercrime cases under the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate recorded a significant decline in 2025, with 7,636 cases reported, down from 11,914 cases in 2024. Financial losses due to cyber frauds also fell sharply to Rs 404.61 crore, compared to Rs 793.18 crore in the previous year. Swift police intervention helped in freezing and recovering funds, with Rs 54.67 crore refunded to victims during the year.
While petitions received rose slightly to 31,569 in 2025 from 30,883 in 2024, most of these involved low-value complaints under Rs 25,000, which increased to 19,059 from 17,916. Among fraud types, part-time job scams were the most reported with 2,079 cases, followed by trading fraud with 1,256 cases and smishing fraud with 689 cases. Despite fewer incidents, trading fraud caused the highest financial losses.
A notable success was the steep drop in ‘Digital Arrest’ fraud, which fell from 1,002 cases in 2024 to just 117 cases in 2025, a reduction of nearly 90 per cent. Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty credited the public’s proactive approach alongside police efforts for this achievement.
Officials said the overall decline is due to continuous cyber awareness campaigns, rapid freezing of accounts, and coordinated action with banks and service providers, reflecting both increased vigilance and strengthened enforcement in the city.
