K. Keshava Rao, an advisor to the Telangana government, said the delimitation is not just about increasing seats in Parliament, but it is a process of demanding strong representativeness of every State. He noted that, despite numerous efforts to achieve political unity in the nation, the debate continues to exist on the delimitation.
In a media briefing at his residence here on Sunday, following a recent meeting of the Southern States in Chennai, Kesava Rao highlighted that this dispute tends to arise following each census. He expressed particular concern over the erosion of federalism under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah seem to have disregarded federalism entirely. They have expanded the central jurisdiction while diminishing the powers of the states, leading to a loss of state rights," Keshava Rao remarked.
The Congress leader highlighted that the BJP remains quiet regarding the delimitation issue. He criticized the Union government's approach, arguing that it is unfair to focus on increasing seats in northern states such as Assam and Jammu and Kashmir while neglecting those in the south.
He stated, "Demanding additional seats is a means to restore the rights of the states. However, Union Minister Amit Shah is not addressing this matter at his level, and such an attitude does not provide a viable solution to the issues at hand." Regarding delimitation, he noted that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin is taking a prominent role, but the main figure is actually Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He emphasised that the announcement of a public meeting in Hyderabad marks a significant development for the southern states and has the potential to reshape the forthcoming political landscape across the country.
