Senior IAS officer Sanjay Jaju formally assumed charge as the new Chief Secretary of Telangana on Tuesday. Before taking over the state's top bureaucratic post, he paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at Bodhi Pavilion in the MCRHRD campus. He later arrived at the Secretariat along with outgoing Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao to officially assume office. Several IAS and IPS officers, along with senior officials from various departments, congratulated him on the occasion.
A Telangana cadre IAS officer originally from Madhya Pradesh, Sanjay Jaju is scheduled to remain in service until February 2029. He brings with him extensive administrative experience at the district, state and national levels, with particular expertise in digital governance and public administration.
Jaju holds an M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA in Finance. During his career in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, he served as Sub-Collector of Vijayawada, Collector of West Godavari district, Commissioner of the Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporations, Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh Infrastructure Corporation, and Commissioner of Civil Supplies.
As Secretary for Information Technology and e-Governance in the undivided Andhra Pradesh, Jaju played a key role in launching the Mee Seva initiative, which significantly improved public access to government services through digital platforms.
Since the formation of Telangana in 2014, Jaju has served in several key positions with the Central Government. He was Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation from 2014 to 2018, during which the organisation adopted a fully digital system and received the National e-Governance Gold Award. He later served for five years as Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Defence before being promoted as Union Secretary and heading the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for two years.
For the past two years, Jaju has been serving as Secretary of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region before returning to the Telangana cadre. Along with his new role as Chief Secretary, he will continue to hold additional charge as Special Chief Secretary of the Information Technology and Industries Department. He will also oversee the Chief Minister's Office Speed Division as its CEO and serve as Special Chief Secretary of the Industry and Investment Cell.
