Loukya Entertainments, known for films like Colour Photo and the blockbuster Bedurulanka 2012, returns with its latest production Dhandoraa, directed by MuraliKanth. Featuring Shivaji in the lead, alongside Navdeep, Nandu, Ravi Krishna, Manika Chikkala, Mounika Reddy, Bindu Madhavi, Radhya, and Aditi Bhavaraju, the film is slated for a theatrical release on December 25.
Set in a Telangana village, Dhandoraa is a rooted rural drama that explores social, emotional, and political tensions surrounding a death before cremation. The story draws inspiration from real-life incidents and literary influences, examining caste, dignity, and power structures that persist even in death.
Speaking to the media, director MuraliKanth shared that his personal experiences growing up in Medak inspired the story. “I witnessed how even cremation grounds are segregated by caste. That shocked me deeply,” he said. He added that while films like Thithi and Ee.Ma.Yau influenced him, Dhandoraa focuses on what happens before cremation, highlighting the conflicts and decisions that arise in that process.
Shivaji’s character drives the narrative, but every actor, including Nandu, Ravi Krishna, and Bindu Madhavi, plays a pivotal role. MuraliKanth emphasized that the film features strong women-centric characters, reflecting his personal observations of women taking key decisions in households.
The title Dhandoraa, suggested by a friend, encapsulates the energy of the story, moving away from the initial working title Anthima Yatra. MuraliKanth promises audiences a layered, emotionally engaging narrative, complemented by RR’s music and background score.
“Dhandoraa is not just a film; it is an experience,” he said. “Audiences will walk out carrying a lingering, beautiful emotional journey.”
