On the occasion of the 86th birth anniversary of the late Rebel Star Krishnam Raju, the 3rd Annual Health Camp of the UK–India Diabetic Foot Foundation was successfully organised on the 20th of this month at Sri Rastu Function Hall in Dendukuru, Madhira, Khammam district. The free mega diabetic treatment camp benefited thousands of people from Madhira, Khammam and surrounding areas.
Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka attended the programme as the chief guest, accompanied by Smt. Nandini Vikramarka and Mallu Surya Vikramaditya. The camp was organised under the leadership of Smt. Shyamala Devi, wife of late Krishnam Raju, and his daughter Praseeda. Renowned diabetic foot surgeon Dr. Venu Kavarthapu spearheaded the medical services through the UK–India Diabetic Foot Foundation.
More than 3,000 people received free medical check-ups, medicines and treatment for diabetes and diabetes-related foot complications. Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister lauded the initiative, stating that organising such a large-scale free health camp in Krishnam Raju’s memory was highly commendable. He observed that many poor people remain unaware of diabetes until it reaches an advanced stage and appreciated the family’s efforts to serve the underprivileged.
Smt. Shyamala Devi recalled that Krishnam Raju conceived the idea of free diabetic camps after undergoing treatment in London and realising that many could not afford such care. She said the initiative would continue annually. The camp saw the participation of 32 specialist doctors from India and abroad.
