Four senior doctors at Medicover Hospitals, Sangeet, took the influenza vaccine in front of the media on Thursday as the hospital launched an Adult Vaccination Drive, highlighting the need for immunization beyond childhood. The hospital introduced an Adult Immunization Card to help individuals maintain their vaccination records and understand vaccines recommended based on their age, health conditions and risk factors.

Dr Pradeep Kumar Mishra, General Medicine, Medicover Hospitals, Secunderabad remarked that vaccinations should not stop with childhood as many adults are unaware of the vaccines they may need or when they last received them.  Dr Gangadhar Reddy Mallu, Pulmonologist, Medicover Hospitals, advised that adults at higher risk of complications should discuss influenza and pneumococcal vaccination with their doctor and take preventive measures at the right time

Doctors stressed that adult vaccination can help protect newborns by reducing the risk of infections being brought into the household. Dr Vinay Kumar Ratan, Paediatrician & Neonatologist stated that keeping people around a newborn appropriately vaccinated can help reduce the risk of infections. Dr Valluri Padmini, Gynaecologist, Medicover Hospitals, Secunderabad mentioned that women who have not been vaccinated should discuss their eligibility and vaccination schedule with their gynecologist.
