The Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Hyderabad, has transferred three advanced materials technologies to leading industry partners. The Licensing Agreement for Transfer of Technology (LAToT) documents were handed over by Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and DRDO Chairman, Dr Samir V Kamat, at an event held at DMRL.
The first technology, manufacturing of high-strength Radomes, was transferred to BHEL, Jagdishpur. These Radomes serve as protective covers for crucial missile sensors and will boost self-reliance in missile systems. The second, manufacturing of DMR-1700 steel sheets and plates for defence applications, was transferred to JSPL, Angul. This steel grade offers a combination of ultrahigh strength and high fracture toughness at room temperature. The third, DMR 249A HSLA steel plates for naval applications, was handed over to BSP, Bhilai, SAIL, providing a robust material suited for the construction of naval vessels.
Dr Kamat commended DMRL’s role in advancing research and fostering industry partnerships. He said the transfers highlight the lab’s multidisciplinary expertise and ability to address critical defence needs.
Strengthening collaboration further, DMRL also signed an MoU with the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of Civil Aviation to extend its expertise and facilities for aviation safety. The event was attended by senior DRDO officials including Dr RV Hara Prasad, Dr Manu Korulla, and Dr R Balamuralikrishnan.
