Driving a vehicle after consuming alcohol is akin to committing suicide, said Kamareddy District Superintendent of Police Rajesh Chandra. Addressing the media on Wednesday, the SP stated that police conducted widespread drunk and drive checks across the district with the main objective of preventing road accidents. During the checks carried out under various police station limits, 24 persons were caught driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol.
They were produced in court, and a total fine of Rs. 46,800 was collected from them, he informed. The court also sentenced three of the offenders to three days of imprisonment based on the severity of their cases. The District SP issued a stern warning that there would be no leniency towards those who drive under the influence of alcohol and endanger the lives of others. He appealed to every citizen to strictly follow traffic rules and regulations. The SP made it clear that drunk and drive checking drives would continue uninterrupted across the district.
