In a high-energy session on Telangana’s Olympic Quest, prominent sports personalities, policymakers, and experts from Hyderabad collectively emphasized that Telangana’s path to Olympic glory must begin at the grassroots—with stronger coaching systems, modern infrastructure, and a culture that keeps children actively engaged in sport.
Former India cricket captain and Cabinet Minister Mohammad Azharuddin underscored the importance of early talent identification driven by skill and commitment. “Grassroot encouragement is essential, but we must also evaluate skill realistically. Dedication, application, and hard work shape champions. Telangana’s new Sports Hub under the Future City vision is a major step forward—facilities we never had in our playing days,” he said.
Ultimate Table Tennis Chairperson Vita Dani praised the state’s renewed focus on sports. “Success of an athlete is determined by the ecosystem around them. For India to aim at 2036, we must build systems that help athletes realise their dreams. Telangana’s leadership has given sports the importance it deserves at the right time,” she noted.
Olympic medalist PV Sindhu stressed uniformity in foundational training. “Everything begins at the grassroots. Every athlete must receive equal attention. A strong foundation—coaches, support staff, SNCs—is essential because every athlete has unique needs in strength and endurance,” she said.
Chief National Coach Pullela Gopichand highlighted the expanding opportunities for young athletes. “Both the Centre and Telangana are ensuring every child gets a chance to play. A fitter, sport-driven young population will lead us to Telangana Gold Quest,” he stated.
Former cricketer Ambati Rayudu pointed out Hyderabad’s abundant natural talent but called for better facilities. “The talent is there—we now need world-class infrastructure,” he said.
Government Advisor A.P. Jitender Reddy stressed that Telangana is rebuilding sports after years of neglect. “We aim to create a world-class Sports University, host events like Khelo India, and bring the best global practices here. The national games held in Telangana proved our capability,” he added.
Sports Authority of Telangana State Chairman Shivasena Reddy highlighted the CM’s commitment: “Revanth Reddy has a special focus on nurturing talent. Through the CM Cup, we are identifying promising athletes and giving them specialised training.”
Sports expert Boria Majumdar called out gaps in the national system. “Sports education remains a major missing link in India,” he said.
Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan emphasised building a culture of fitness: “We want children to play, stay active, and adopt sports as a routine. Schools will be the focal point of this transformation.” Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari encouraged youth to embrace sport with passion. “Gone are the days parents discouraged sports. Today’s youth must play wholeheartedly, without chasing glamour. The CM Cup is our platform to bring hidden talent into the spotlight,” he said.
The session concluded with a unified call to make Telangana a powerhouse of sporting excellence and a serious contender for future Olympic medals.
