Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar felicitated a father and son duo for exposing an illegal LPG cylinder diversion and refilling racket, awarding them a certificate of appreciation and cash reward at TGICCC, Banjara Hills.
The duo, businessman Ashok Tiwari and his 16-year-old son Naman Tiwari from Chudibazar, noticed irregularities when a domestic gas cylinder delivered on January 21 was found underweight by nearly two kilograms. After repeated instances of early gas depletion, they verified and found cylinders meant to weigh 30.4 kg were only around 28 kg. Their suspicion led them to investigate further, revealing that staff of Siddhartha Enterprises were illegally diverting domestic gas and refilling smaller commercial cylinders at an unauthorised location in Jumerath Bazaar, posing a serious safety threat to the public.
Following a complaint at Goshamahal Police Station, police registered a case against five accused and arrested them. Officials also seized two commercial cylinders, seven domestic cylinders, 12 small cylinders and refilling equipment. Sajjanar praised the duo, calling them role models of public vigilance and urged citizens to report suspicious activities through Dial 100.
