The Cyber Crime Unit of Hyderabad City Police has taken strong action against illegal online betting, gaming promotions, and fake investment schemes. During April, through digital monitoring, police identified 184 social media profiles on Facebook and Instagram that were running 801 paid advertisements promoting betting apps and fraudulent investment websites targeting users in India.

These profiles used misleading content such as easy money promises, referral bonuses, IPL predictions, and deepfake videos of celebrities to attract victims. As a preventive step, all 184 profiles were reported and taken down. Police also registered six FIRs against the promoters.

In total cyber patrol operations, 427 profiles and 1903 ads have been removed so far for similar violations. Further investigation is underway to trace those behind the networks and financial channels involved. Authorities have urged the public to avoid such platforms, not share referral links, and report suspicious activity to 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.
