Odisha Governor Kambhampati Hari Babu said on Sunday that education of girls is the beginning of social change and it will play an important role in the development of the country. On Sunday, the Governor of Odisha was the Chief Guest at the inauguration of the new building of Nivedita Gurukul at Unguturu as well as the second anniversary function.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor mentioned that Gurukul is not just an institution imparting education, but it teaches a holistic way of life and inculcates discipline, personality and self-confidence. He emphasized the need to recognize that education of girls is not just an opportunity but a basic necessity for building the future of the country. The Governor recalled how Sister Nivedita ,though born in a western country, had accepted India as her spiritual and social Karmbhoomi and dedicated her entire life to the education and empowerment of women and girls.

She firmly believed that true national progress is possible only when women are educated and confidently connected to their cultural roots, Governor Hari Babu said. He lamented that the education of Scheduled Caste girls is lagging behind in literacy when compared to others, especially in the state of Odisha where it has the highest number of tribal people and remarked that it is the responsibility of everyone to encourage people from such areas and backgrounds.

He recalled that the Union Government brought the National Education Policy 2020 with the aim of having a strong foundation for primary education and called upon the Gurukuls to prepare the students as job givers rather than job seekers.
