In a pioneering move towards smart agriculture, a state-of-the-art wireless, solar-powered IoT-based irrigation and fertigation automation system has been installed at a 12-acre oil palm farm in Indugula village of Madugulapally mandal, Nalgonda district. The system, owned by progressive farmer Mantrala Venkat Reddy, was officially launched on Tuesday by District Horticulture and Sericulture Officer Pinnapureddy Anantha Reddy. This marks the first installation of such an advanced automation system in Telangana.

Developed by Mobitech, the innovative solution allows the farmer to remotely manage irrigation and fertigation using real-time sensor data and mobile controls—boosting crop yield, reducing input costs, and eliminating dependence on manual labour. The system connects four borewells to a central fertigation tank, delivering precise doses of water and nutrients via an automated drip irrigation network that can be operated from anywhere in the world.

“This is the first time in Telangana that a wireless IoT-based irrigation and fertigation system has been implemented,” said Anantha Reddy at the launch. “Farmers can now control motors and valves through a mobile app, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of water and fertilizers. It’s a revolutionary leap toward precision farming.”

Mobitech’s Nalgonda district representative Maligireddy Sangeeth Reddy highlighted the system’s technical capabilities: “Our setup integrates soil moisture and nutrient sensors for real-time data-based decisions. It supports up to 512 valves and 10 motors within an 8 km range, reducing water usage by 50% and minimizing fertilizer waste while improving both yield and crop quality.”

Venkat Reddy, currently preparing for a visit to the United States, expressed satisfaction with the technological upgrade. “Even from abroad, I can manage my entire farm through the app. The system operates on pre-set schedules—watering and fertilizing as needed. There’s no need for manual intervention.”

Now in its fourth year, the oil palm plantation is already yielding an average of 3 tonnes per acre. With Mobitech’s automation solution in place, the farm is poised to further optimize resources and set a benchmark for high-tech, climate-resilient farming in Telangana.
