The corridor is expected to reduce travel distance by nearly 100 kilometres and cut travel time by about four hours, significantly boosting connectivity, trade, tourism and economic growth across the Rayalaseema, Coastal and Northern regions of Andhra Pradesh
156 Lane-Km completed in a Week
In a historic achievement for India’s highway infrastructure, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), in association with Rajpath Infracon Pvt. Ltd., has created four Guinness World Records within a single week on the Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada (BKV) Economic Corridor (NH-544G) near Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh.
On January 6, 2026, the project team set two global records for the longest continuous laying of Bituminous Concrete, 28.896 lane kilometres in 24 hours, and the highest quantity of Bituminous Concrete laid continuously, 10,655 metric tonnes in 24 hours. These feats marked the first such records achieved on a six-lane highway project anywhere in the world.
Building on this momentum, two more Guinness World Records were achieved between January 5 and January 11. The project recorded the most quantity of Bituminous Concrete laid continuously at 57,500 metric tonnes and the longest continuous stretch of Bituminous Concrete paving at 156 lane kilometres, surpassing the earlier world record of 84.4 lane kilometres.
Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed pride over the achievement and congratulated NHAI, Rajpath Infracon, engineers, officials and thousands of workers involved in the project. Participating virtually in the celebrations along with ministers, secretaries and district collectors, the Chief Minister described the accomplishment as a defining moment for India’s infrastructure sector.
“The speed and efficiency with which this world-class record has been achieved reflect the spirit of New India, ambitious, fast and globally competitive,” the Chief Minister said. He also acknowledged the strong support of the Central Government and praised Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari’s leadership in transforming India’s highway network.
The Chief Minister highlighted that advanced machinery, stringent quality control measures and technical collaboration with institutions such as IIT Bombay played a key role in achieving the records. He suggested that the corridor connecting Amaravati and Bengaluru be referred to as the “Amaravati-Bengaluru Road,” underscoring its strategic importance.
The corridor is expected to reduce travel distance by nearly 100 kilometres and cut travel time by about four hours, significantly boosting connectivity, trade, tourism and economic growth across the Rayalaseema, Coastal and Northern regions of Andhra Pradesh.
The Chief Minister said the Guinness World Records stand as testimony to India’s engineering excellence and Andhra Pradesh’s growing prominence in world-class infrastructure development, reiterating that the State is firmly positioned as a key driver in India’s infrastructure transformation.
