Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, on Monday delivered a significant update on the much-anticipated Regional Ring Road (RRR) project, providing a major boost to Telangana’s road infrastructure and the state government’s development agenda. Speaking at two public events in Sirpur Kagaznagar (Komaram Bheem district) and in Hyderabad, the Union Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several national highway projects worth over Rs 6,100 crore.
In a major development, Gadkari announced that work on the Northern part of the Regional Ring Road—costing Rs 16,000 crore—will commence soon after Cabinet approval. This stretch will connect four key districts with Hyderabad passing through Narsapur, Toopran, Bhongir, Choutuppal, Yadagirigutta, Medak, Sangareddy, and Siddipet, enhancing connectivity and easing traffic congestion in Hyderabad.
The Union Minister also confirmed that a detailed study is underway for the Southern part of the RRR and expressed hope for a favorable decision. The entire RRR is expected to significantly boost industrial growth and economic development by creating seamless access between outer districts and the state capital. In line with the broader vision, Gadkari emphasized that the Centre aims to develop Telangana’s road infrastructure such that any part of the state can be accessed from Hyderabad within five hours.
Massive road infrastructure investment announced
Gadkari declared that the Central government will invest an additional Rs 2 lakh crore in Telangana over the next four years to upgrade and expand the state’s road network. He noted that when he took office in 2014, the length of National Highways in the state was a mere 2,511 km, which has now nearly doubled to over 5000 km. The Minister assured that the upcoming phase of development would transform the entire image of Telangana’s transport landscape.
At a public meeting in Hyderabad, Gadkari announced that the Hyderabad–Vijayawada road will be expanded from four lanes to six lanes, with the project set to begin within three months at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore.
He also laid the foundation stone for a series of roadworks including a flyover, 12 underpasses, and service roads on NH-65, which connects Hyderabad and Vijayawada. The Indore–Hyderabad corridor under the Green Express Highway initiative will be completed by March 2026, while the Surat–Nashik–Kurnool–Hyderabad–Chennai–Thiruvananthapuram Greenfield Highway is expected to be ready by April 2026, he said
Gadkari expressed regret over the delay in completion of the Uppal flyover and said the project has been reassigned to the original contractor. He assured citizens that he will personally monitor the progress to ensure completion within 9 to 10 months.
Recognizing Adilabad district’s historical and socio-economic significance, Gadkari emphasized on the Centre’s commitment to uplift backward regions through infrastructure-driven employment and development. Projects worth Rs 3,900 crore were dedicated to Adilabad and Nizamabad districts, including the planned expansion of the Jagtial–Karimnagar highway and new corridors between Vijayawada and Nagpur.
To enhance spiritual and inter-state connectivity, Gadkari announced several new highway projects linking Bhadradri, Basara, and Medaram and improving road connectivity between Telangana and Maharashtra. A greenfield road between Suryapet and Devarapalli has also been proposed.
He also inaugurated the Biochar Centre of Excellence at Kanha Shanti Vanam in Shadnagar, aimed at promoting rural women’s entrepreneurship through Biochar unit management training.
Centre reiterates commitment to Telangana’s growth
Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar underlined the Centre’s consistent efforts for Telangana’s development. Kishan Reddy highlighted that 32 of 33 districts in Telangana are now connected to the state capital via National Highways and noted a cumulative investment of Rs 1.25 lakh crore in the past decade.
As regards the unfinished works of the service roads under the Amberpet flyover, Kishan Reddy called upon the state government and GHMC to resolve the land acquisition issue that's been unsolved for a long time. He also mentioned ongoing energy, industrial, and railway projects including the Kazipet railway coach factory and Ramagundam fertilizer units.
Bandi Sanjay voiced concern over the deteriorated Hyderabad–Karimnagar–Mancherial highway and said the Centre is ready to upgrade it to National Highway status once state-related issues are resolved.
