Ganesh idol makers briefed

Ahead of the upcoming Ganesh festival, Hyderabad City Police has stepped up preparations by holding a coordination meeting with Ganesh idol manufacturers to ensure peaceful, safe and eco-friendly celebrations. The review meeting, chaired by City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar at the TGICCC Mini Conference Hall in Banjara Hills on Thursday, focused on safety, traffic management and environmental protection.

Sajjanar said strict precautions must be followed from idol preparation to immersion to prevent accidents. Recalling that around 23,000 idols were installed in the city last year and four transport-related accidents were reported, he urged manufacturers to adopt safety measures during production and transportation. He reiterated that, as discussed with the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi, the maximum height of idols should not exceed 16 feet.

The Commissioner encouraged artisans to promote eco-friendly clay idols and create awareness among devotees to prefer smaller idols for easier immersion. He also stressed fire safety at workshops, proper electrical wiring and clean working premises.

Police will coordinate with government departments to provide necessary infrastructure and earmark special entry and exit routes for transporting idols from major manufacturing hubs such as Dhoolpet, Jalpally and Mailardevpally. Manufacturers were asked to share booking details, transport schedules and routes with local police in advance. Certified cranes and transport vehicles must be used, and violations will invite legal action, he warned.
