Metro India News | Hyderabad

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will open tenders on August 4 for the construction of two key alternative road corridors around the AOC Centre—an important infrastructure initiative aimed at improving regional connectivity and easing traffic congestion in the area. The long-pending project is being taken up under the H-CITI (Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure) programme and will be executed on an EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction)/Turnkey basis at an estimated cost of Rs 960 crore.

According to officials, the two proposed corridors will span a total length of 6,050 metres. One stretch will connect Safilguda Level Crossing to Entrenchment Road, while the other will run from Safilguda Level Crossing to the RK Puram Road Over Bridge (RoB), providing vital alternative routes for daily commuters.

As per the tender schedule, GHMC has called for a pre-bid meeting on August 12 at its Head Office on Tank Bund. The last date for submission of bids is August 22 by 3:00 p.m., with technical bids scheduled to be opened on the same day at 4:00 p.m. Financial bids will follow on August 23 at 4:00 p.m. All necessary documents and engineering drawings are available through the Telangana State Procurement Portal.

For the implementation of the project, GHMC will require a total of 44.20 acres of land. This includes 42.20 acres of Defence land, 2,868.30 square yards of Railway land, and 1,772.40 square yards of privately owned land. Nearly 7 acres out of the total are to be acquired on lease. According to officials, the estimated cost for land acquisition is Rs 498.10 crore.

GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan recently held discussions with senior Defence officials to expedite the land transfer process. Brigadier S.K. Chetty, Director of Land Legal (Defence), represented the Defence establishment and emphasized that any transfer of Defence land must follow standard procedures, including the provision of land of equal value in exchange.

To facilitate this, GHMC has proposed to regularize 200 acres of government land in Jawahar Nagar, which is currently under Army occupation. According to officials, while the Army physically controls nearly 1,000 acres in that area, only around 400 acres are officially registered under its ownership. GHMC has suggested that 200 acres from this pool be offered in exchange, which would pave the way for timely acquisition and execution of the road corridors.
