The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has cleared 52 abandoned and scrap vehicles across the city as part of its ongoing Special Sanitation Drive being implemented in all 300 wards of Greater Hyderabad. The initiative is aimed at improving urban cleanliness, enhancing public safety and easing traffic movement through sustained field-level action.
The large-scale sanitation drive has completed 11 consecutive days of intensive operations, with GHMC teams working across residential areas, commercial zones and public spaces. Abandoned vehicles were identified on roadsides, footpaths and other public places where they had been lying unused for long periods, causing traffic obstructions, safety concerns and unhygienic conditions.
According to GHMC officials, the removal of these vehicles has helped free up public spaces, reduce congestion and improve overall sanitation standards in several localities. The operations were carried out by GHMC field staff, with coordination and assistance from the Traffic Police wherever necessary to ensure smooth and safe clearance.
As part of the ongoing drive, GHMC has appealed to citizens to actively support the effort by reporting abandoned or scrap vehicles in their neighbourhoods. Vehicles that are unused for long durations, pose safety hazards or are left on roads, footpaths or other public places can be reported along with exact location details.
Citizens can share information through the GHMC helpline number 040-2111 1111 for prompt verification and action. GHMC officials stated that continuous monitoring and public participation are key to maintaining a clean, safe and obstruction-free Hyderabad.
