In a major step towards building a tech-enabled urban future, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Google launched a GenAI based pilot project on Monday. The initiative was formally introduced during a virtual meeting held on August 4, aimed at transforming Hyderabad into India’s first GenAI powered city.

The meeting was attended by MA&UD secretary Ilambarthi, GHMC commissioner RV Karnan, IT additional commissioner Anuraag Jayanthi, and senior representatives from Google. The project aligns with the vision of chief minister A Revanth Reddy to position Hyderabad as a model for AI-driven urban governance.

The pilot project will test a wide range of artificial intelligence applications to address day-to-day civic challenges and enhance public service delivery. These include AI-enabled chatbots for government services, smart parking management, AI-based classification of citizen enquiries, and automated form filling. Google will also support real-time tracking of public buses through Google Maps and introduce AI-driven models to improve road safety and traffic flow.

In the healthcare domain, the project will enable a citywide health analytics platform, AI-powered detection of vector-borne diseases, and ‘Manya’ - an AI assistant designed to support ASHA workers in the field. Other planned features include block chain based verifiable credentials for citizen services and AI tools to monitor lake pollution and construction waste dumping.

Speaking after the meeting, GHMC commissioner RV Karnan said the collaboration with Google is not just a technological upgrade but a shift towards a more efficient, transparent, and citizen-focused administration. Once successfully tested, the AI tools will be expanded across the city, helping Hyderabad emerge as a national leader in smart urban governance.
