In a major relief for unemployed engineering graduates in Andhra Pradesh, the state government has initiated the process for recruitment of 629 Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) posts across power sector utilities. The vacancies will be filled in APTRANSCO, APGENCO and the three power distribution companies (DISCOMs).
The Energy Department has officially granted permission for issuing the recruitment notification, paving the way for the long-pending hiring process to begin shortly. The recruitment drive is expected to significantly strengthen the technical workforce in the state’s electricity sector.
Officials said the state has been witnessing a steady increase in power consumption, while severe staff shortages at the field level have been affecting maintenance works, fault rectification and public service delivery. Employee unions have repeatedly urged the government to fill vacant technical posts to improve operational efficiency and reduce workload on existing staff.
Taking into account the field-level requirements and demands raised by employee associations, the coalition government approved recruitment of the AEE posts as part of its annual job calendar initiative. The recruitment process will be conducted through a written examination to ensure transparency and merit-based selection. Candidates selected through the process will be appointed directly to regular government positions.
The vacancies are primarily in Electrical, Civil and Telecom engineering streams. Though the recruitment process faced delays due to administrative reasons, officials said all major hurdles have now been cleared and the notification process will move forward soon.
According to Cabinet approvals announced earlier, the vacancies include 200 posts in APTRANSCO, 100 in APGENCO, 134 in APSPDCL, 60 in APCPDCL and 135 in APEPDCL. The detailed recruitment notification, including eligibility criteria, syllabus, reservation details and examination schedule, is expected to be released soon on the official websites of the respective power utilities.
