The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) has dismantled a major interstate ganja trafficking network that allegedly used Speed Post and courier services to supply cannabis across India, arresting its key accused, Satyam Misra of Jharkhand. Four other members of the syndicate, including his brother Shubham Misra, are absconding.

According to police, the gang cultivated and sourced ganja in Jharkhand before distributing it to customers in nearly 21 states, including Telangana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Delhi. The accused allegedly booked parcels from post offices in Jharkhand after falsely declaring the contents as medicines. Orders were received through WhatsApp and other social media platforms, while payments were collected through multiple UPI accounts.

Police said the syndicate handled around 80 to 100 orders every day, dispatching 8 to 10 Speed Post consignments daily. Each parcel contained 50 to 250 grams of ganja, sold for between Rs 1,500 and Rs 8,000. The network reportedly earned nearly Rs 30-35 lakh every month, with an annual turnover estimated at Rs 4-5 crore.

The racket came to light after H-NEW intercepted ganja parcels sent to Hyderabad. Investigators arrested two local buyers in separate cases registered at Gudimalkapur and S.R. Nagar police stations and seized 2 kg of ganja.

During the investigation, police found that parcels carrying narcotics had travelled by train and air without mandatory scanning, exposing a serious security loophole. Hyderabad City Police will write to the concerned central authorities seeking stricter screening of postal consignments and has directed courier agencies to scan every parcel to prevent misuse of delivery services for drug trafficking.
