HCSC and City Police celebrate launch of first cohort of “Margadarshaks”, 280 New volunteers enrol

The Hyderabad City Security Council (HCSC), in collaboration with Hyderabad City Police, organized the “Certification Ceremony” for the 1st Cohort of the Margadarshak program and officially launched the 2nd Cohort at the Auditorium, TGICCC, Banjara Hills. The Margadarshak is a community-driven initiative aimed at building a network of trained volunteers and safety ambassadors who can support and strengthen citizen participation in creating a safer and more secure city. 

The program focuses on equipping participants with essential knowledge and practical skills related to public safety, emergency response, women’s safety, cyber awareness and community engagement. Over 80 participants completed the prescribed training modules in the first cohort and earned their Margadarshak certification. The program's first batch has demonstrated the effectiveness of structured community engagement and the willingness of citizens to contribute actively towards public safety initiatives. 

The certified Margadarshaks are expected to serve as responsible community volunteers and ambassadors for safety awareness across the city. Building on the success of the inaugural batch, the 2nd Cohort of the Margadarshak Program was formally launched during the ceremony with 280 enrolled participants. The certification ceremony brought together senior officials, community leaders, partner organizations, trainers and participants to celebrate the achievements of the first cohort and reinforce the shared vision of building a resilient, aware, and participative community. In his keynote address, V. C. Sajjanar, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad and Chairman of HCSC, emphasized that public safety is a collective responsibility and highlighted that initiatives like the ‘Margadarshak’ program are vital in fostering strong partnerships between law enforcement and the community. To further strengthen this framework, he announced the launch of the ‘Police Mentors Program,’ where a designated Constable in every police station will act as a mentor, providing continuous guidance and support to the Margadarshaks.

Speaking on the occasion, C. Shekar Reddy, Secretary General, HCSC noted that by empowering citizens with the right knowledge and skills, Hyderabad continues to set an example in collaborative and proactive approaches to urban safety and security. Dr. Lavanya NJP, DCP Women Safety Wing Hyderabad in her address mentioned the importance of Margadarshak program and also told the volunteers about do’s & don’t’s of a Margadarshak. 

Khyati Naravane, Jt Secretary, Women’s Forum expressed her gratitude to all partner organizations, trainers, and participants whose support and commitment have contributed to the success of the program and reaffirmed HCSC’s commitment to expanding the initiative in the coming months.
