Hyderabad Traffic Police carried out a special two-day drive on January 9 and 10, 2026, targeting drunken driving as part of their ongoing road safety measures. During the operation, a total of 404 drivers were caught operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol.
Among those apprehended, 349 were riding two-wheelers, 24 were driving three-wheelers, and 31 were four-wheelers or other types of vehicles. The police also recorded the blood alcohol content (BAC) levels of the offenders. Seventy-seven drivers had BAC levels between 30 and 50 mg/dL, 151 drivers between 51 and 100 mg/dL, and 87 between 101 and 150 mg/dL. A total of 45 drivers had BAC levels ranging from 151 to 200 mg/dL, 23 were between 201 and 250 mg/dL, nine were between 251 and 300 mg/dL, and 12 drivers had levels exceeding 300 mg/dL.
Authorities emphasized that there will be zero tolerance for drunk driving violations and that such special drives will continue in the future. Commuters have been urged to cooperate with the Hyderabad Traffic Police to ensure safer roads and prevent accidents caused by impaired driving.
The drive highlights the ongoing efforts by the police to curb dangerous driving behavior and promote road safety across the city. The police reiterated that strict enforcement measures will remain in place to deter violations and protect all road users.
Cyberabad weekend drive: 137 caught
Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted a special weekend drive targeting drunk driving, apprehending a total of 137 offenders. Two-wheelers accounted for 92 cases, four-wheelers 39, three-wheelers 5, and one heavy vehicle was also involved.
The offenders were categorized based on their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels. Most, 108 individuals, had BAC levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Sixteen offenders fell in the 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml range, while 13 had levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. All have been or will be produced before the court.
Cyberabad Police reminded the public that driving under the influence is a serious offence. Those causing fatal accidents while intoxicated can be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, with a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine.
In the previous week, from January 5 to 9, courts disposed of 929 drunk driving cases. Of these, 23 offenders received fines with jail terms, 33 were given fines with social service, and 873 were penalized with fines only. Police continue to urge drivers to prioritize road safety and avoid alcohol while driving.
